Daily grievance and fun

Looking Forward… Again!

This is a feeling I have not felt in a very long time. I was talking to my best friend – who happens to be my age – this weekend and casually asked her if we do something for our 50th birthday (next year!).

A decade ago, we visited a great city wanting to make it special. We did have a little bit of an adventure, we had a good time, and the week we spent away from our daily lives did both of us good. Back then, the trip cost us both a couple of thousand dollars. Let’s just say our lives have changed a lot since then so we are looking at something rather modest in terms of adventure.

One of our go-to activities has always been culinary tourism. We tasted quite a few different types of cuisine over the years and we naturally went that route once again.

Despite the chaos of the last few years, most of the restaurants we went to are still in business; and we are planning to visit them again. It fits each our budget, it solves a few issues, and it leaves us with a feeling of familiarity that comfort beyond words.

We did try to find a spa package and some fine dining, but somehow nothing really appealed to us or stuck long enough to sit well with us. So as of now, we are planning to revisit our favourite restaurants, go book shopping, and enjoy some movies and some shows. It is too early to plan.

Life is simple, with simple pleasure, simple enjoyment, and comforting… because we need more of these three things after the last few years. This is how we nurture ourselves and our friendship… something that has not been easy to get lately.

Planning as if chaos will not touch us again, as if normalcy was a legitimate state, and as if hope was not a luxury.
