Discernment and Life Experience

I am in deep reflection about life experience.

As we grow up, we gain in life experience. Some are awesome, others are painful, but we usually hone our discernment through them.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

I wonder how much honing we end up doing when we lack awareness.

How do you see something you cannot conceive? How do you see something you do not know how to recognize?

And as if lack of awareness was not enough, we also use denial when something either doesn’t suit us or might cause us harm or pain.

Between these two, how much life experience do we truly get?

Even with the most rigorous mind, there is no way to escape bias. Bias is this insidious, invisible thing that distort our perception.

Are you aware of your biases?  I know I am not.
